WEGEN CORONA ABGEBROCHEN * What is the right thing to do? Let’s learn from the answers of Immanuel Kant to Peter Singer
Philosophy in English
Ethics helps us to decide between right and wrong, and nowhere is this more needed than in contemporary social issues that affect us. In this course we shall examine and discuss important questions in environmental ethics, including animal rights, medical ethics, human rights and the ethical problem of extreme poverty. Thinkers examined include philosophers of the Enlightenment as Immanuel Kant, Jeremy Bentham or John S. Mill as well as contemporary thinkers as Peter Singer, Paul Regan, James Griffin and Thomas Pogge.
We are going to read short texts in English and you will have the opportunity to debate the issues.
2x, 18:00 – 19:30
Hinweis Participants need not be fluent in spoken English, but should be able to read short texts.
